This road has been used by the Elkhorn folks for over half a cen tury and moreover has been graveled, scraped and otherwise maintained by Marion County for years. Thet point is we enjoy the privilege of shopping in Gates and Mill City and to carry on friendly social rela tions but on the other hand find it decidedly distasteful to be confront ed with trespass signs and threats of closing the road with a gate. We in Elkhorn do not wish to quar rel with the Hamptons nor to take any part in the Hajnptons - Valley Telephone Co. negotiations. The only point is we will defend our right to the free unrestricted use of the ex isting 60 foot road If the Hamptons and the phone company make a deal for a short cut route Through their property, we are not concerned, but don’t think they should stop work within the 60 foot road. I. personally, hope I’m not in ¡the “dog house” for expressing these facts so the folks of Gates and Mill City will still be our friends.
