On Thursday evening was the large banquet at the Statler in honor of all District Governors present from all the States and Countries represent ed. Clin ton. Ast the convention was over, the Kellys and the Murphys spent the day on a personally-conducted tour of the city by Rev. Hillis Davidson, formerly of Harrisburg. Ore. They visited St. Patrick’s Cathedral, spent three hours going through the Soviet Exposition at the New York Coli seum, walked through Rockefeller Plaza, and St. Thomas Church. In the . veiling, the group enjoyed the stage play. “The Flower Drum Song,” starring Miyoshi Umeki, Pat Suzuki, Juanita Hall, and Keye Luke, all fam ous on TV and in the movies Late that same night, everyone took a ride I on the subway to visit Harlem. On Saturday, July 4, a 9-hour bus tour included the following: NBC Studios of radio and television; St. John’s Cathedral; Chinatown, The Bowery, the United Nations Building, a ferry-boat trip to the Statue of Liberty, and a second elevator trip to the top of the Empire State Build ing (102 stories) for a daylight view of the largest city in the world. That evening, dinner was enjoyed at Jack I Dempsey’s restaurant, with the host snaking everyone’s hand and giving John Kelly his autograph. Another autograph, of which John is very proud, is that of Mary Ann Mobley, "Miss America,” from Miss- i issippi, who visited the hotel one day. On Sunday, July 5, the Kellys were invited to spend the day out in the Bronx as guests of their sonjn-law’s brother, Ted Barkley, and his wife and 3-year-old son. They took the subway for the 40-mile trip into "the country." A walk through the Bronx Zoo was followed by a visit to the Bo- 1 tannical Gardens with which Ted is connected. Monday was an outstanding day, spent going through Wall Street and th Stock Exchange, Radio City Mus ic Hall to see “The Nun’s Story” and the stage-show featuring the famous “Rockettes.” In the evening, another TV show. "The Big Pay-Off,” was witnessed at the CBS Studios, with Bess Myerson as the star attraction and Bob Page as master of cere monies. The Murphys and the Kellys board ed a train for Washington, D. C.. July 7, arriving there about three in the afternoon. With reservations at the Washington Statler, they walked through several rooms of the White ' House which was only about two ; blocks away through a park, visited the Shopping district, and had dinner at the "Blue Mirror.” An all-day tour to get the “lay of the land’’ in Washington was taken on Wednesday, July 8, the driver of the private limousine taking the group to the Lincoln Memorial, the I Capitol, White House, Arlington I Cemetery,Mt. Vernon (Geo. Wash ington’s home), where they had luncheon in a tea-room, and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. In the afternoon of the same day, a visit was made to Sen. Richard Neuberger's office where they were cordially greeted by the Senator. The I receptionist is Miss Mary Jane Cox, formerly of the CBP’office force here. Thursday morning. July 9. Lee Murphy, who is the new State Chair man for the Lions Clubs of Oregon. ' and his wife left by plane for their home in Junction City and the Kellys were “on their own," As an appoint ment had been made for a group of Oregonians to tour the F. B. I. building in the Department of Justice that morning, they arrived at 10 o’clock for the very interesting tour. Later the same day. the Constitut- tion. Bill of Right, and Declaration of Independence were viewed in the Archives Building, as were the Na tional Gallery of Art and the Mus eum of Natural History. Friday morning, several from Ore gon had a n appointment at 9 o’clock to have their pictures taken with Sen. Neuberger by a photographer from the New York Tigies. Others present included his niece. Katie Goodsell. On the same morning, the Kellys were taken on a complete tour by Mr. Rasni k including: the Supreme Court; the first U. S. Senate; the President’s room; the Chapel used by the Congressmen; the new Senate Of fice Building; the office of Justice William O. D uglas; and the Library of Congress. They enjoyed lunch dur ing the tour, in one of the many cafeterias That night, the tourists went up to the Washington Monu ment. Saturday. July 11. the Ford Theat er Museum was visited, after which they went to the Petersen House di rectly across the street where Presi dent Abraham Lincoln died. The main building of the Smithsonian Institu tion was toured, as well as the Air craft and Arts and Industries build ings where thsy eaw Col.
