Guest speaker for the occasion was Dr. Charles McClure of the Depart ment of Humanities at Oregon Col-, lege of Education whose topic was “Poetry of Democracy.” The program was as fallows: pro- cessional, school band, directed by Earl Loucks; invocation, Rev Robert Roach; welcome, Vernon Johnson, the valedictorian; vocal selection, high school chorus, directed by Robert Harris, accompanied by Virginia Hoeye; presentation of awards, J. Announced as winer of the Ethel Hickey award, a memorial set up in honor of the well-loved high school principal from 1926 to 1938, was Judith Ann Hoeye, one of the 39 graduates for 1959. This consists of $15 in books of the winner’s choice. This award was started by a group of Miss Hickey’s former students a number of years ago, and goes to the | student judged by the faculty and the alumni committee as the most out standing of the entire student body in scholarship, achievement, loyalty, and I cooperation.
