At meeting held recently at the Idanha plant, a certificate ack nowledging the record was presented to the workers on behalf of the company. Prior to the presentation of the awards. Jack MacDonald, safety su pervisor of Simpson Logging Com pany gave a short talk on how safety in a plant is achieved, using a chart to emphasize the point Harry Spenc er. supervisor of the Idanha opera tion introduced Guy Hartle, manager of the plants at Idanha and Lyons, who congratulated the men on their fine accident-free record. Also intro duced at the meeting were Jim Wiles, Cedar Lumber. Inc., the newest industry in the Canyon has started production at its mill in Fox Valley. Owners of the new industry are Don Walker, president; Burton Boroughs, vice president, and Don Jenkins, se cretary-treasurer. It took only two months to get the mill constructed. Engineering the mill construction was Mose Hooden- pyle. Another of the steady workers is Orville Downing, who stated Fri day that he has helped out on three other mills at the same location. The mill will specialize in cedar, but will also saw Oregon hardwoods and fir. The mill has a capacity of 50,000 to 60,000 feet per day and will hire seven or eight men when operat ing at capacity. Planing will be done by the McCormick Planing Mill which is about two miles from their plant. Safety team captains who served during the three- month period when the record of 189 accident-free days was estab lished were also introduced as fol lows: W D. Hamilton. C. D. Storey, C. F- Ball, W W Williamson, Frank V. Merril and D. E. Roberto. Presented to the group as winners in the safety slogan contest for wives of employees were Mrs Jim Wright, Mill City, first place; Mrs. Dorothy Williamson, I lanha, second place, and Mrs. Reba Snyder. Idanha, third place. They were paid off in silver dollars, 125 for first, $15 for second, and $5 for third. See pictures on page six for further details for winners and presentations.
