What grass or grasses are best for
lawns? This question confronts every
one who seeds a new lawn.
To help answer this question, eight
di'feren: varieties of grass and three
lawn mixtures were seeded in plots1
in Bush Park last fall. The e plots j
are along the entrance to Bush House
in the park across fiom the rose gul
dens. They are for the observation of
anyone who may be interested.
Astoria and Highland bentgrass,
Chewings Fescue, several varieties
of creeping red fescue, and the Mer
ten strain and common Kentucky
bluegrass were seeded in the plots.
These varieties of grass are most com
monly recommended and used in mix
tures in the Willamette Valley.
The plots were seeded by the Mar
ion County Extension Office in co
operation with the Salem Parks De
partment. Further information on the
plots may be obtained at either of
their offices.
