Mill City was one of the few cities in Marion county holding its own as far as business concerns listed with Dun & Bradstreet, Inc. "There are 38 fewer business con cerns in Marion County today than there were last year, says J. Harry White, district manager of the Port land office of the firm. Basing his facts upon a physicial count of the businesses listed in the January 1959 Dun & Bradstreet Reference book, White points out that in 1958 there were 1,915 firms listed in Marion county as compared with 1,877 busi nesses now, a decrease of 2.0%. Using the reference book listings as a guide, it is interesting to review what has happened in the seven prin- c;pal Marion county communities dur ing the past year. Mill City remained the same as in 1958 with 33 firms reporting each year. Stayton had the biggest loss percentagewise in the county. In 1958 there were 85 firms reporting against 76 this year, for a loss of 10.6%. Silvertftn had 125 firms in '58 and 122 iu 1959. Mt. Angel 40 last year and 38 this year for a loss of 10%. Woodburn was the only city showing a gain. They had 126 last year and 131 this year for a 4% gain.
