WHOLE WORLD IN RECESSION By Dick Turpin Make no mistake about it, this is a worldwide recession. Unemployment rose in most of the countries of the world during the first three months of 1958. Unemployment reached its highest peak since the end of world war II in the United States and Canada; the highest in five years in Australia. Britain, The Netherlands, I Norway and Sweden and the highest in two years in Belgium and Den mark. Only a few countries have been doing well—Ireland, Israel, Japan, Pakistan, Spain and Puerto Rico. Countries such as France, Italy, Yugoslavia and Hawaii barely held | their own. It’s only the simple fact I that occurs after each and every great war. The postwar period fol lowing every war is always accom-1 panied by recession, depression or | both, and it lasts from two to five, years and in some cases even longer. Therefore why «ay if the Democrats ! were in power the world would have I better times and if the Democrats were in power now, why say if the Republicans were in power now we would have better times* Fact is: The Republicans and ■ Democrats are close to equal in num-1 bers in both houses of Congress now and they have failed utterly to curb the present recession. If you are in clined to criticize either of the two political parties, why don’t you criti cise both? It looks like Hopkins choice. •<!▼• , ■(tern True the whole world over...- -Its the Water makes the difference Glass Snack Set Special Fine for entertaining and for TV Snacks, etc Cup fits on the intricately patterned glass tray Buy this set now, Sells regularly For $1.79.
