Stayton, Silverton and Albany Assemblies had been invited to be present, but none were able to at tend due to school activities, inclement weather, and sickness among the of ficers. « The hall was beautifully decorated with garden scenes, artificial flowers and streamers of crepe paper. Es corted to honary places in the East were Laurell Johnson, worthy matron of Marilyn Chapter, O. E. S., and O. K. Hirte, acting worshipful master of Mill City Lodge, A. F. & A. M. The Rainbow girls put on a lovely degree with paper covered parasols for the honored guests, at the close of which a beautiful boquet was pre sented to Mrs. Johnson, with both she and Mr. Hirte receiving a lovely plate with the emblems of their respec tive lodges on it in colors. The de gree was under the direction of Mrs. Win. Shuey, the Mother Advisor. Used Car Clearance Sale f Better Stop for School Bus No Matter Where You Are Motorists regardless of where they are driving had better stop for a school bus as the result of the in creasing number of states adopting laws similar to Oregon's requiring stops of motorists in either direction when encountering a stopped school bus, except on designed four lane highways. There a few states without the law, Ray Conway, Manager of the Oregon State Motor Association an nounced, but the uniform vehicle i code in this respect has been adopted by so many states that he is re minding the members of the Oregon Associatoin not to take chances in any state. The final date for applying for the Oregon World War II veterans’ bonus is December 31, the State De partment of Veterans’ Affairs war ned this week. George A. Jones, bonus supervisor, said applications must be postmarked before midnight of that date to be considered for payment. They should be addressed to the Bonus Division, Department of Veterans’ Affairs, Salem. Oregon. Applications also may be filed in person at the Portland office of the state veterans’ department in the State Office building. S. W. Fifth and Columbia, or through county veterans’ service officers. Applications have been submitted recently to the bonus division at the rate of 50 a week, but this went up to more than 100 last week, indicating that considerable numbers of persons have still failed to apply. Jones emphasized the fact that the bonus cannot be paid to veterans for their Korean service. The bonus act limits payment to World War II vete rans of their survivors only. The bonus pays $10 for each full | month of domestic duty and $15 for each month of foreign or sea duty, to a maximum of $600. The veteran must have been a bona fide Oregon resident for at least one year immediately! prior to his service, he must have' served for 90 days or more between September 16. 1940, and June 30, 1946, [ and have been honorably discharged. I The eligible survivor of a veteran i , who died in service or died of service incurred injuries following discharge is entitled to the $600 maximum. If death following service was for other j causes, the survivor may receive the ! amount the veteran would have been paid had he lived. Survivors entitled in order are the I unremarried widow of the deceased . veteran, his children, or his parents.
