Dur ing 1951, 1,812 fires burned 153,793 acres. James C. McClellan, chief forester, American Forest Products Industries, emphasized that Oregon’s excellent forest protection record was achieved in the face of a national increase of 30 percent in woodland acreage burn ed by fires. The AFPI forester praised the Keep Oregon Green fire prevention organi zation and the work of the state’s forest fire fighting organizations. Se venty percent of Oregon’s 2,462 fires last year were suppressed before they had spread more than a quarter of an acre. ‘‘The state’s aggressive Keep Green organization,” he said, “has done an outstanding job in maintaining an alert public, highly conscious of the dangers of forest fires and the need for preventing them.” The AFPI report, based on U.
