A D-4 "cat” owned by the American
Construction company, was floated
out of Box Canyon, Wednesdey, by
barge across the lake to a junction at
the ‘‘Blow-out” road, where it was re
loaded and hauled to Portland.
On completion of the forest service
suspended trail bridges across the in
lets of the reservoir, (Blowout and
Box Canyon), late this spring, the
company had to leave the cat because
the water level of the reservoir pro
hibited the bringing out of the cat
over the same ground it was taken
in on. Floating of the cat was super
vised by Ray May, heavy equipment
foreman for the American Construc
tion company. The company is now
constructing bridges at Lake View,
Oregon.
Donna Rae Stevens, daughter of
Mrs. Ann Stevens, returned home
Sunday after spending a weeks annual
outing at Smiths Girl Scout camp at
Silver Creek Falls.
After visiting with relatives in
Portland last week, Mrs. Ann Stevens
was accompanied home by Mr. and
Mrs. William Marcum, and Mr. and
Mrs. Leon Wadsworth of Portland.
Mrs. Marcum and Mrs. Wadsworth
are daughters of Mrs. Stevens.
Mr. and Mrs. Orin H. Perkins of
Detroit, left here Sunday for Orland,
Caliomia, for an extended visit with
relatives there. Mrs. Perkins who has
taught school for a number of years,
the last five years at Detroit, is now
retired.
Visiting at the Robert Manning
home last week, were Mr. Mannings
mother, Mrs. Myrtle Manning of San
Jose, Calif., and his brother and sister-
in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Manning
and children, Barbara and Jonny of
Sacramento, Calif. The Sam Man
nings were former residents of De
troit. They are on an extended tour
through Oregon and Washington. Al
so visiting at the Manning home was
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Ryan of Payette.
Idaho. Bob is a cousin of Mrs. Man
nings whom she met or the first time.
Mrs. Dorland Ray and son Gregory
are making their home at Spanaway,
Washington, while Cpl. Ray is sta
tioned at Fort Lewis.
New comers to Detroit are Clarence
Lpdike and the Smith family of Forest
Grove, who are making their home at
the Joe Leis cabins. They are em
ployees of the Eliason Logging com
pany, who moved here from Forest
Grove and are now logging for M. M.
at Boulder Creek. The Peter Eliason
Logging company owned a stand of
timber at Tumble Creek which they
logged off three years ago.
Property sales in Detroit continued
this week when Mr. and Mrs. Harry
Rutherford sold their home to Mr. and
Mrs. Bob Johnson of Idanha. The
Rutherfords will move to Portland
