6—THE MILL CITY ENTERPRISE
Work to complete the Gates fire
hall was started this week.
The
building was started several months
ago by the Rural k ire district and
left uncompleted due to lack of funds.
An appeal was made to the city
council. A deed to the property on
which the building stands was secured
from the owner. Mayor Floyd Völkel,
by the city and the contract for the
erection of one story of the building
given to Ray Lord.
It is planned to enlarge the hall at
a later date, when a recreation hall
will be added.
W. R. Hutcheson, Gates realtor,
reports the sale of acreage to George
Humphreys of Mill City, formerly
part of the propeity belonging to Miss
Georgia Shane of Salem. The land
ia located on the Linn county side of
the river, across from the high school.
The saw mill, which formerly was
operated by Shields Remine and has
been closed down for the past year
has been leased from the present own
ers and it is reported will resume
operation in a short time. A crew of
men has been working the past week
to put the mill in running order. The
name of the lessee was not obtainable.
Mrs. Martha Bowes was surprised
