GATES < person contacted with the report. Mrs. Joe Leis received word of the death of her sister Mrs. Laudie Has- brook who passed away at her home in Portland on Jan. 14. Mrs. Has- brook suffered a stroke some months ago and contracted pneumonia which was the cause of her death. She will j be buried in Hood River where she lived a number of years ago being the widow of Judge Hasbrook of Hood River. Mrs. Leis left for Port land on Tuesday morning. Mr. and Mrs. R. R. Rynearson and daughter Susie spent Monday, Tues day and Wednesday of last week in Portland where Susie has been having some dental work done. The Detroit-Idanha school board approved the erection of and pur chased materials for two yard lights which will be placed at the grade school building soon. One will be placed in front of the gymnasium the 1 other at the main entrance of the i grade school. Mr. and Mrs. Nolan Rasnick spent the Christmas holidays in Portland visiting relatives. Nolan's sisters live there also Mrs. Rasnick’s son by a former marriage. Tom Griffin. Stayton town team were victors over Detroit town team on Monday night of this week, in a game played in the Detroit gymnasium. The score stood 66-30. There was no rooting section for De troit since the other members of the student body did not accompany them. The North Santiam Woman's club will meet today with Mrs. George Bar ney for election of officers. The women have comleted three comfor- ' ters for the Korean children on "Little Orphan Island” and these will be sent at once. A handkerchief shower will be held today for Mrs. George Barney who has been very active in the club j work and who is moving to Eastern Oregon. Mrs. Ran Helwig is giving a shower honoring Mrs. Ned Warner this week at her home in Mongold. The Mongold Sunday school has voted to discontinue their services held there in the Hut and will bring those who wish to come to the Detroit Sunday sdtool. Mrs. K. F. Ramsey has been superintendent there. The Detroit Sunday school decided on Oct. January 17, 195? 1st, to purchase a goat for the Korean orphans and have collected to date, entirely through unsolicited offerings $46. To each child giving as much as a dollar, a prize has been given. Children winning prizes so far are: Suzanne Moore, Bobby Moore, Michael Moore. Elaine and Fritz Morrison, Richard Rice each giving a dollar; Lauralee O’Brien, two dollars and Russel Rice has given three dollars. The class having the largest amount contributed will have the privilege of naming the goat. The classes stand at present: Mrs. Helen Baughn’s in termediates, eleven dollars; Mrs. Alice Moore’s juniors, eleven dollars; Mrs. Sophy's primary class has five dol lars, and Mrs. Nobles beginners have nine dollars. Next Sunday wit) wind up the offerings and there will be con siderable competition for naming the goat. The senior class has given ten dollars.
