I *F*» Viwssra l awg iappasuarus > Mom steps out to the movies with a girl friend and leaves Dad to his game with the boys. He doesn’t mind doing the laundry between hands when he has automatic equipment. SOUTH BEND. IND.—Dad is gradually taking over the home laundry labors in America. What’s more, he seems to like it i Recent surveys of homes hav. ing both automatic washers and ' dryers reveal Dad does the laun dry more than half the time in many homes. In almost all of them he does it occasionally. Similarly, a check of Laun derettes disclosed that hubbies make up one third of all patrons. The surveys show beyond a doubt that it isn’t masculine gen erosity but man’s hankering to tinker with mechanical gadgets that’s behind this evolution. Right from the start when automatic washers were first marketed 14 years ago. Mom literally had to shove Dad aside to get her work done. But frequently he insisted on doing the washing and has been stuck with it ever since Now it’s getting worse The survey results in homes that have both automatic washers and dryers point to an even greater shift toward "wifeless washdays.” In 95 per cent of the homes hubby ■ does a full wash at least once a month. In 22 per cent of the homes he’s a laundry lover 75 per cent of the time. Dad’s role in home laundry is bound to grow as the flood of dryers being built now and planned for tomorrow swamp the market. So far the automatic dryer business hasn’t even seen infancy Judson S. Sayre, general man ager of Bendix Home Appliances, the pioneers in automatic home laundering, points out that only two per cent of American homes have dryers now. But in five years, he predicts, at least two out of three homes with auto matic washers (there are 6.000,- 000 of them! will have dryers, too , Dryers are more popular than even the automatic washers they w_____ Three ____ out of four ___ complement. women who have both, if asked to choose between one or the other, would prefer to lose the washer. Those same surveys show that Monday is no longer washday in homes with dryers. Washing is done nearly every day or when ever there is a load for the washer. Drying is done immedi ately. In a good many cases, Mom steps out—to a movie, club meet ing or church social—while Dad settles down with a book, tele vision, or a game with the boys. Incidentally he does the laundry, too. merely by flipping a dial or two. For Rent COMPLETELY HHN1SIIEII Apartments ULTRA MODERN Suitable for Two People Oak Park Motel Phone 5922 GATES
