Dennis Howand, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Lee Howland of Detroit was taken to
the Salem Memorial hospital on Fri­
day morning suffering with an attack
of Polio. Dennis had been having a
severe headache for two or three days
and when on Friday morning his
neck became stiff he was taken to
Salem, Wanda Jennings the first
victim is gradually becoming better
and is at home [lonna Watts is to
return home this week. Her right
arm is affected.
Bobby Gordon, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Jim Gordon was taken to Portland
on Monday afternoon. Bobby has
been suffering from a high fever for
three days and complained of a hurt­
ing and twitching in one leg. There
has been no report on his condition to
date.
Henry Heibert was taken to the
Salem hospital on Sunday. He has
been having some pain in his neck
and shoulder and Sunday was hardly
able to get out of bed. His case was
however not diagnosed as polio.
Mrs. Evelyn Gearhart is back in
school again following last weeks ill­
ness, she had a light case of pneu­
monia.
Moyne Renner, former student of
Detroit high, who joined the navy dur­
ing the late summer has been visiting
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Ren­
ner for the past two weeks. Moyne
left for San Francisco on Sunday
where he will ship out on the U. 8. S.
Sitkoh Bay, presumably for the
Phillipines or Japan.
The sophomore class of Detroit
high will be host to the student body
of the school on Friday evening, Nov.
9 at 7:30. The party is held in honor
of the freshmen class who have sold
$240 worth of subscriptions in the

Word has been received by this
correspondent that Micheál Howland
was taken to the Salem hospital today’
suffering from what is apparently
polio. No diagnosis has been an­
nounced at this time. He is the older
brother of Dennis Howland.
