Commission. There is great con
cern over the work of the FTC.
• « •
Congress has never, despite
requests front organized small
business, given the FTC enough
money to do a job. During the
present session, organized small
business will again urge Con
gress to act.
-
• • *
Simultaneously. Congress will
also scrutinize the entire FTC
organization to see if the money
will be properly spent, as a horse
ted to water cannot be made to
drink. This probe has already
started. A report just released
by the House Small Business
Committee spotlights glaring de
ficiencies in the FTC.
• ♦ •
The report states internal strife
and office politics pervade the
agency. The report also refers io
a "premium placed on inter-office
deals, strategic alliances,” etc.
Investigating Congressmen also
found that the FTC is split into
small cliques with every dhlsion
jealous of any powers given any
other division.
• 00
The House Small Business
Committee also accuses the FTC
of jumping on a horse and gal-
loping off in all directions.
• • •
Investigators found the FTC
failed to follow up en cases.
Why? Congressmen are deter-
mined to find out. Next week
there’ll be more facts.

Everybody knows small news-
papers are plagued with a short-
age of newsprint, also exhorbi-
tant newsprint prices.
• • *
That is, everyone knows except
apparently Marshall Plan offi
cials. who have given $1 million
worth of newsprint to Ireland, or
the equivalent of a year's supply
for 1.000 substantial American
weekly newspapers.
