Funeral services for Mrs. Eva Be-
pier, who passed away at a Salem
nursing home following a long ill­
ness at the age of 67 years, were
conducted Thursday afternoon at 2
o'clock at the Mill City Presbyterian
church with Rev. O. L. Jones of Lyons
officiating. Eva Henness Bevier was
born at Gates August 6, 1883. In
1903 she was married to Walter Be­
vier where they lived until moving to
Fox Valley in 1937. Interment was
in the Fairview cemetery at Gates,
with Ed Davis, Joe Bowes, Clarence
Johnson of Gates, Albert Julian, Vel-
vie Lewis and Merrill Brassfield of
Lyons as pallbearers.
Santiam Valley Grange held their
regular meeting at the hall Friday
evening, with John Lambrecht, master
presiding over the meeting.
Much
discussion was held, and plans were
completed for the soil conservation
dinner which will be held at the hall
Wednesday evening, January 10. Tony
Moravec lecturer presented a short
program at the lecturer’s hour. Guests
were present from Washington. Re­
freshments were served at the close
I of the meeting.
A short business meeting of the
Women’s Society of Christian Service
was held Tuesday afternoon at the
home of Rev. and Mrs. Leonard Jones.
Due to the small attendance a meet­
ing was called for Tuesday afternoon,
Jan. 9, in hopes of having a better
crowd.
Mrs. Don Brotherton is seriously ill
at the Salem Memorial hospital fol­
lowing surgery of last week.
Mrs. Ivan Smith and children,
Jualyn and Dennis, are accompany-
ing her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. S.
Barker back to the midwest. They
are going via California, Arizona,
New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma and
on to Kansas.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Power are
receiving congratulations upon the
arrival of a son born Saturday morn­
ing at the Salem Memorial hospital
This is their fourth child, the young
man has two brothers and a sister.
The Boy Scouts with their leader,
Chester Grimes, went on an over­
night hike Saturday evening. Scouts
making the trip were Donald Olm­
stead, Billie Morgan, David Trahan,
Brent Bentley, Jimmie Morgan, and
Billie James.
The Mari-Linn PT A will hold its
January meeting at the school house
Friday, January 12, at 8 o’clock. Capt.
Walter Lansing of the Salem traffic
division will be the guest speaker.
The 4th grade mothers are the serv­
ing committee.
The monthly teachers meeting and
dinner was held at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Ivan Smith, Mrs. Elva
Kuiken, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Poole,
Miss Deanne Thompson, Miss Vivian
Boyce, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Putman
and daughter, Mary Lynn, Mr. and
Mrs. William Lafky, Mrs. Hazel
Wirth, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Skillings
were present.
Mr. and Mrs. George Nydigger,
Jeanette and Larry returned home
last week from a vacation trip to Yel­
lowstone Park, California, and Mexico.
Mr. and Mrs. George Clipfell, and
daughter, Mrs. Elaine Hadley and
children, visited several days at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Don Sheppard
in Baker. .Mrs. Sheppard is also a
daughter of the Clipfells.
Mr. and Mrs. Laurence Walworth
from the Methodist camp at Suttle
lake visited the first of the week with
friends in Lyons. They were over­
night guests in the home of Mrs. Min­
nie Smith and Catherine Lyon.
Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Kinzer, Curtis
and Billie spent a couple of days at
the home of their daughter and fam­
ily, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Jungwirth at
Coquille.
Mrs. Alice Huber returned home
after spending several days at the
home of her daughter, Mr. and Mrs.
George Keeley in Portland, Mrs.
Huber is convalescing following sur­
gery at the Salem Memorial hospi­
tal in Salem.
Friends received word of the birth
of a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Richard
Lankow of Portland. Mrs. Lankow
will be remembered as JoAnn Crab­
tree formerly of Lyons and the little
miss has been named Martha Jo.
John Edwards visited in Hansord,
California, with his brother, Voil
Edwards. It had been 25 years since
the brothers had seen each other.
