REID & REID Mill City The town casaba teams of Gates, Mill City, Detroit, Aumsville, and Sub limity, and a team of CBI Engineers are readying themselves for the open ing of the Santiam Canyon basket ball league. The league will open with all six teams taking off their wraps at a gala Jamboree on Wednes day, Dec. 27, at the Gates high school gym. The opening game starts at 7:30 and will see the Detroiters pitted against the CBI Engineers. Detroit claims to have a strong five and hopes to champion the league, but the Engi neers may be more formidable than expected. At 8:15 the Gates aggregation is scheduled to battle the Mill City Rockets. Gates has won all their pre-season practice games and will be the heavy favorite. Also the Rockets are handicapped from lack of practice, because of their difficulty in obtaining a gym to play in, but they have plenty of fight. The last game of the evening will be Aumsville vs. Sublimity. These two teams are unknown powers, as seen from upstream, and they will try to upset any squad in the league that gets too high in the standings. Each action packed game for the evening will be composed of two fif teen minute halves. The boys will start their regular league games on January 8. A sched ule will be published before that time.
