Mill City Firemen Auxiliary Presi-
dene Elma Stewart intimated today
that all is ready for the royal visit
of "His Honor Santa Claus” Satur
day afternoon, December 23, in Mill
City and the local fire hall.
The Firemen Auxiliary has ar
ranged for a Santa tour of Mill City
with Chief of Police J. T. King driv
ing the good will carriage to the ac
companiment of proper Christmas
carols played over a loud speaker.
After Santa greets his multitude of
subjects in Mill City, he will begin
the kingly task of parceling out some
400 boxes of Christmas candy, Mrs.
“Tex” Blazek, Auxiliary informant,
reporte«l today.
Auxiliary representatives disclosed
that Santa's treat, slated for eager
pre-school and school age children this
Saturday, is Christmas candy.
Mill City's St. Nick has given ad

in the local fire hall for meeting kid
dies Saturday afternoon from 1:30 to

Advance messengers bring the word
that Santa Claus is having an ex
tremely successful Christmas. Mys
terious ami delightful gifts under
many pretty Christmas trees await
the signal from His Honor Santa
that they may soon be placed in
eager and bright-eyed children’s out
stretched hands.
Santa Claus has expressed his
warm-hearted feelings on numerous
occasions to citizens of this commu
nity in regard to the kind and con
siderate manner which the Firemen
and their ladies have traditionally
sponsored his once-a-year visit to this
Canyon and to Mill City in particular.
His Honor has proclaimed these
December days as the time when all
children shall be made happy and
carefree—the Firemen and their ladies
are carrying out this edict.
Mill City eagerly awaits “His

Glen Hearing Receives
Bruises in Accident
Gates—Mr. and Mrs. Glen Hearing,
accompanied by Mrs. Oswald Hirte,
had a narrow escape Tuesday of last
week when Hearing’s car was involved
in a wreck near the Cottage Farm
as they were driving to Salem.
Hearing was following a truck, an
other truck was coming from the
other direction, a pedestrian suddenly
stepped in the road in front of the
truck Hearing was trailing.
The
driver made a sudden stop to avoid
hitting the pedestrian or the oncom-
ng truck. Hearing failed to stop
quick enough and crashed the rear
of the truck ahead.
Only bruises were sustained by the
occupants of the Hearing car.
Garden Club Enjoys
Christmas Party
Fritzie Wolverton entrained midst
a clamor of well-wishers last Thurs
day at the Southern Pacific depot in
Mill City for Vashon, Wash., his new
domicile, where he will be able to
enjoy Christmas with the Chas. Wol-
vertons, Mrs. Kay Colburn reported
today.
The remainder of the Wolverton
family left recently this community
by car for their new home in Vashon
where Mr. Wolverton is engaged in
publication work.
Fritzie was in
structed regarding staying behind
and tieing up of loose ends always
present when a family moves.
Fritzie expressed his obvious lone
liness to his friends and acquaint
ances many times during his brief
stay behinti in Mill City, but stuck
it out until he glanced at the calendar
and saw Christmas approaching.
Mrs. Kay Colburn disclosed that
Fritzie, in the rush and bustle of his
leaving, left tickets and reservations
in “Tex” Blazek’s care: and from the
following letter it is evident that the
plumbing facilities were not up to
Fritzie’s expectations. Printed with
permission, the letter follows:
I "Mrs. ‘Kaynine’ Colburn

"I arrive«! last night. Accom-
modations were fine except for cer
tain facilities. But they held up
the ferry two minutes for me. I
wouldn’t advise you to travel like I
did. Thank you for taking care of
me.
Bow Wow,
Fritxie.”
Observers intimated Blazek built a
fine dog crate.
Mill City residents will miss the
big, sad-eyed, black dog of the Charles
Wolverton’s.
Lyons—The garden club held its
Christmas party at the community
dub house Wednesday afternoon.
Mrs. Otto W’eidman, president, pre
sided over the business part of the
meeting. Each member responded to
roll call with "New ideas for holiday
decorations”. Mrs. Percy Hiatt was
in charge of entertainment and dem
onstrated and helped each member
make a corsage from fir cones.
Following came the Christmas
party with Mrs. Alice Huber in
charge.
The room was beautifully Upper Canyon Men
