The Christian Endeavor rally held
here at the First Christian church
had its emphasis on the work of mis
sionaries in Africa with a film and
a brief message by Rev. Carl Gelder
of Salem. Dick Williams provided a
musical number with his accordian.
It was announced that the union con
vention would be on November 4th
in Lebanon at the Christian church.
Registration fee will be $1.25, and
this will include a banquet ticket. At
the executive meeting officers for
the next year were nominated. They
are: Mary Lou McCauly of Albany,

Mill City, secretary; and Janet Young
of Crabtree, treasurer. Chairman to
be appointed will be Glenn Nofziger
of Albany, publicity; Richard Osburn
of Lebanon, lookout; Dorothy Whities
of Lebanon, recreation; Tom Shelton
of NCC, song leader, and the pastor
councilers will be Glen Johnston of
Crabtree and Lynton Ellwell of Leb

men to be named and they will be
announced at the convention in Leb
anon.
The installation of officers
will be at the convention also. Re
freshments were served to seventy
young people from Albany, Harris
burg, Lebanon, Crabtree, and Mill
City, by the Mill City group.

MILL CITY
FOX VALLEY
By MRS J. H. JOHNSTON
Mr. and Mrs. G. P. Johnston went
to eastern and central Oregon on a
combined business and vacation trip
this week. They planned to be home
by Thursday night or Friday.
George and Shirley stayed nights
with the Bassetts while their parents
were away.
Lots of large flocks of geese have
been seen flying south in the past
several days—a usual sign that win-
ter isn’t too far away.
Mrs. Paul Scheiwek and Mrs. Jack
Johnston were Mill City business
callers Tuesday afternoon.
Alvin Scheiwek has been out of
school with a cold for a few days.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Wright and
family have rented the house recently
vacated by the C. R. West family
in Fox Valley. The Wrights came
from near Salem. He is employed
at the Detroit dam.
Mrs. Jack Christensen and children
with Mrs. Ernest Garsjo were Mill
City callers Tuesday afternoon.
There is a fascination in fear. There
is a vortex that surrounds the con
cept of doom. When there is stark
terror about, men magnify it and rush
toward it. Those who have lived un
der the shelter of a wishful idealism
are most prone to rush into utter
pessimism when the shelter fails. No
terror is greater than the unknown,
except the terror of the half-seen.
