Santiam Willing Workers club met
Wednesday afternoon at the home of
Mrs. Lee Howland. The meeting at
the Canyon Aid room was postponed
till October 25, with Mrs. Jim Geibler
as hostess. The committee to inves­
tigate the need of Christmas pack­
ages found no need as yet. The host­
ess served salad and cookies.
The Idanha city council voted Tues­
day night to ask the hiway depart­
ment to place a culvert the length
of the business area to insure better
drainage and more parking space.
It was also voted to enlarge the water
pipes on that street to obtain more
water supply.
Freddie Storey cut a nasty gash in
the fleshy part of his thigh Thursday
night with his daddy’s pocket knife.
Ten stitches were required to close
the deep wound. He was treated by
Dr. Willcut.
SCHOOL NEWS
The Detroit school board, consist-
ing of Earl Parker, Noyes Whitten
and Lloyd Girod, in their meeting
Monday night voted to give authority
to John Cannon, grade school prin­
cipal and Mrs. Wm, Wert, school
cook, to hire an assistant cook for
the cafeteria. Mrs. Eva Tarpley of
I Detroit was hired on the half-time
| basis and began her duties Tuesday,
j The PTA membership contest got
underway the past week among the
school children. A party goes to the
room with the greatest percent of
members.

| places Mrs. Richard Hansen as mem­
bership chairman.

The school council officers were
| elected last week. Fred Davis is the
new president, Anna B. Carte, the
vice president; Lee Hopson, secre­
tary; Edna Golden, treasurer, and
Tod Pantie, sgt. at arms.
The teachers work shop will be at­
tended by the Detroit1 teachers Oct.
23 and 24 at the Salem senior high
school.

chairman for one of the speakers.
State school administrators confer­
ence in Salem was attended by Supt.
Otis White and Principal John Can­
non Monday and Tuesday.
Mrs. John Ray, eighth grade teach­
er of Detroit school, and her pupils
prepared, cooked and served a Span­
ish dinner to 47 persons. The menu
consisted of Spanish Rice, a fruit
dish of grapes, oranges, dates and
figs and cocoa and coffee. Guests
were Mr. and Mrs. Otis White, Stan-
i ley Wipple, Mr. and Mrs. John Can­
non, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Steele, Mr.
and Mrs. Orin Perkins, Mr. and Mrs.
Russell Hoyt, Mr. and Mrs. Nolan
Rasnick, Mrs. Lillian Leach, Mrs.
Claxton, Erving Underwood. John
Ray and the school board and their
wives, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Parker, Mr.
and Mrs. Noyes Whitten and Mr. and
Mrs. Lloyd Girod. Twenty-four 8th
graders were preesnt, about half of
those dressed in Spanish attire. The
cafeteria was decorated in fall leaves.
Guests invited but unable to at­
tend were County Supt. Mrs. Booth,
Supervisors Mrs. Hoenig and Mrs.
Burton.
This dinner was the climax of the
class study of the history of the early
Spaniards,
Open house at the grade school is
being planned for the day before
election, November 6th. Mark your
calendar for that day and visit your
school.
