CONVENTION HELD
The region IV conference of the
Oregon State Association of Student
I Councils held a meeting on Septem­
ber 30 at the Corvallis high school.
Four members of the Mill City high
student council and the principal, Mr.
Caughey attended the meeting. Sue
Mikkelsen, Dolores Poole, I^ela Kelly,
' and Alona Daly were among the stu­
dents that registered at 9 a.m. and J
| stayed for various meetings lasting
[ until 5 p.m.
Each girl attended a different meet- j
[ ing and therefore will be able to have [
many more ideas, concerning high I
school problems, to help in the local ,
school.

Deer hunters in the Elkhorn district
have been having very poor luck. The
two previous hard winters are prob­
ably the cause of the few deer this
year.
Sunday callers at the Steve home
were Ralph Smith, Ray Higgins, Mr.
and Mrs. Harold Olson and children,
Harold Muanda, Russell McLaughlin,
Percy Robertson and brother all of
Salem, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Gibson and
their son-in-law Floyd Thomas of
Aumsville. Russell McLaughlin took
out a nice forked horn.
Emil Dick of Milwaukie, with
friends are staying at his cabin on
the North Fork for a few days this
week.
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Turner of Pow’ell
Butte were callers at the home of
4 Mr. and Mrs. Bill Bickett Sunday.
Spending a couple of weeks vaca­
tion at the Steve Myers cabin in Elk­
horn are Mr. Lawrence Worley of
Portland and Mr. Hibbard of Molalla
Mr. Worley is the father of Mrs.
Myers.

Myers brother, Frank Metzger and a
nephew A. W. Metzger Jr. both of
Gresham.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Bickett have re­
ceived word that their son Bill Jr.
has been called from the reserves to
active duty. He is being transferred
from Morton, Tex., to Camp Lewis,
Wash.
Mr. and Mrs. Gene Deetz of Salem
were callers at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Steve Dark Monday.
Mrs. Paul Layton of Stayton spent
the weekend with her son-in-law and
daughter Mr. and Mrs. Carl Long-
necker.

Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hansen and
children, Richard, Carol and Della,
also Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Ferris and
boys Cecil and Eldon moved to the
coast on Saturday, Sept. 30 where
each will operate an auto court. The
Hansen’s have purchased a motel at
Agate Beach and the Ferris' will op­
erate an auto court. The Hansens
have been in Detroit for about 20
years and both families have been
active in community affairs.
The Christian Church of Detroit
will start Sunday School 15 minutes
earlier each Sunday beginning, Oct.
8th. at 9:45 to 11 o’clock. Church
i services at 11, and Youth meetings at
6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Bible study for
j youth group conducted by Ted Wat­
kins held at the Otis White home.
The Deanha PTA met on Monday
j evening Sept. 25 at the grade school
[ library. The meeting was called to
j order by President Jeff Boyer. There
were about 75 percent. Otis White,
| superintendent of schools gave a short
talk explaining the advantages of the
[Children's bill, Ida Hansen gave a
report on the PTA conferences she
j attended in Corvallis as a representa­
tive of the local PTA. The next reg­
ular meeting of the PTA will be held
on the 4th Monday of October.
The newspaper has been called the
