The Santiam Valley grange held a
special meeting Saturday evening at
the grange hall for the purpose of
a
confering first and second degrees
upon the following candidates: Mr.
and Mrs. Steve Dark, Mr. and Mrs.
Ike Myers, Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Draper, and Frank Studnicka. Plans
were also made for their regular
meeting which will be held Friday
evening, December 16. Installation of
officers will be the highlight of the
evening which will be open to the
of
public, with Bertha Beck installing
officer. Guests from various grange«
will be present. Following the meet­
ing a Christmas party and gift -e
j change will be held.
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Anderson en­
tertained with an evening of cards at
their home Friday evening. Guests
bidden were Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence
Teagen, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Long­
fellow, Mr. and Mrs. Elton Brown,
Austin Longfellow, Chet, Wayne and
Grant Smith all of Mehama.

Mrs Arthur Peterson entertained
a few friends Tuesday evening in
honor of her son, Arthur's 15th birth­
day.
Mr. and Mrs David Luck are the
proud owners of a new car.
Mrs. Laurence Dupuis and Mrs
Charles Dupuis spent Friday shop-
ping in Salem.
Mr. and Mrs Victor Pitt spent
Sunday in Salem.
Mrs Chas Dupuis returned Thurs­
day evening after several weeks visit­
ing with friends and relatives in
Montana
Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Haman and
Joanne spent the weekend visiting tn
Hillsboro and Portland.

Mrs Helen Hargreaves was hostess
for the meeting of the Women's
society of Christian service held at
her home near Jordan. Mrs. Lau­
rence Walworth presided over the
business meeting.
Devotions were
lead by Mrs. George Clipfell and
prayer by Rev. Jewell. Plans were
completed for the cooked food and
fancy work sale held at the commu­
nity club house Saturday, December
10 Mrs Daisy Johnston read a let-
ter from Edna Holder, a missionary
in India. Mrs. MaeMorman a guest
of the afternoon, gave a very inter­
esting talk on Japan. She, with her
husband, who is in the U. S. Army,
recently returned from Japan after
spending 18 months there. She told
of their habits, living conditions,
churches and schools. At the close
of the meeting Mrs. Hargreaves
served refreshments to the following:
