RADIO & APPLIANCE “SERVICE BACKING EVERY SA I J!” Phone 902 Mill City, «• « By JEAN ROBERTS We went sonelt fishing this week. People lined the banks of the San dy River, dipping and scooping and lifting the elusive smelt from the deep water. Cars were jammed bumper to bumper all through the little town of Troutdale, and impromptu parking lots were doing a booming business. People perched on rocks, on brib es, in bats and even overflowed into t>he river itself. High school: Frederick Rugh, so cial studies; Miss Hope Baney, Eng lish and music;; Mrs. Edith Mason, home economics; and Vernon Todd, mathematics. Hanging to a steep bank were three men. One had secure footing. 'The second was clutching a stick held by the first and was holding onto the third who was desj^rrately dip ping for smelt. Further downstream a rather plump woman had waded waist deep into the river and was fishing unper turbed as the fey water swept around her. Almost everyone was wet and cold but happy. Ray Sischo, Mr and Mrs. Lou Myers and Ike Myers went to the Sandy River near Troutdale Tuesday to dip smelt. They returned with the limit and repotted the fishing very good anti the fish large. Mrs. Ike Myers entertained the Elkhorn women with a dinner at her home Wednesday in honor of the birthday of Mrs. Bill Bickett. Pres ent were Mrs. Merwin Knox and children and M r s. Helen McClurg, both of Lyons, Mrs. Bickett, Mrs. Carl Longnecker, Mrs. Ray Sischo, Mrs. Lou Myers and .Mrs. Ray Ro lierts.
