Four (4) bars Savon soap for

Dr. J. Gilbert will lecture at
Grange hall Monday night.
The alley back of the bank
has been thoroughly cleaned up.
Come and see us and leave
your name for the daily R e -
PORTER.
W. J. Wilson won’t sell any
more horses in Yamhill for
some time to come.
Dr. W. A. Wise, the popular
dent ist of Amity, was in the city
this morning, and made tliu of
fice a call.
A civil engineer has discover
ed that there are over six
hundred different shapes to
pears. When any one describes
anything as “pear-shaped,” he
is certainly giving a pretty wild
description.
S. A. Manning left this morn
ing for Yaquina.
It is likely
Mr. M. will open a branch
store at that point.
The GAR boys wish to return
thanks to all who so generously
assisted them at the drummer
boy entertainment.
Mrs. Fellows, Mrs. Apperson,
its. Chas. Cook, Mrs. Clark and
Miss Judy favored this office
with a pleasant call yesterday.
Bishop A Kay have their win
dow full of straw and summer
hats that can be bought at your
own price. Don’t fail to see
them.
Abe Blackburn, of Carlton,
has been arrested as the leader
of the mob that lynched Kelty.
We await developments before
further comments.
Fred E. Raymond of Gaston,
will act as our agent at that
place. Mr. Raymond is so well
known that a further introduc
tion is unnecessary.
Dr. Gilbert the eminent phys
iognomist and antlieropologist,
will commence a course of amus
ing and instructive scientific
lectures, at Grange hall Monday
evening. Admission free.
Not a particle of calomel, nor
any other deleterious substance
enters into the composition of
Ayer’s Pills.
On the contrary,
this medicine is carefully com
pounded from the curative prop
erties of purely vegetable sub
stances. Try it.
To-day we present to our
readers the advertisment of

POPULAR
As Seen by Other Eyes.
Looking from the car window
as the train winds around the
hills between Yamhill and Mc
Minnville, only this thought
finds words : Surely nature has
done her part towards making
her fields and people rich,
Lo-
cation is picturesque.
This small town, slumbering
in this rich valley seems to be the
prettiest between Portland and
Yaquina bay. The people are
kind and well-disposed; houses
painted; public buildings in good
order. If there is one thing
needed more than another, it is
a little attention to details, to
small things that the Yankee
sees at a glace. I miss the well-
arranged kitchen, gardens, How-
er-beds, clean show windows.
The only answer for the reason
of this is “No time.” This is a
great country for wheat. But
what that has to do with the
time of the villagers I cannot
understand. May be the philos
opher of the village is correct.
If he wait till winter he wiil not
want any greens, and the rainy
season, which never fails, will
clean windows.
