Maj. Jones has ordered the govern­
ment snag puller to begin work above
Oregon city and come as far up as
possible, dredging and pulling snags,
as the present stage of water will ad­
mit.
Citizens of Olympia are preparing
to improve their harbor by dredging
a deep channel three-fourths of a mile
long. The channel, it has been found
will run through a bed of clams that
will assay 40,000 bushels to the mile.
John Campbell came out to view
Oregon, got logged in southern Ore­
gon ; pulled out via Yaquina, reached
home by way of Mexico, and writes
back that he sold 65 acres of his farm
in Illinois for $5,100, and has gone to
locate finally in south western Mis­
souri where land is cheap.
Pixley, of the Argonaut, the smart-1
est and most foolish newspaper man
on the Pacific coast, is still pitching
into the Irish. This year he is also
making life a burden for the republi­
can candidate for governor of Califor-
nie, because Mr. Swift refused to ru j
on Pixley’s know nothing ticket.
