The selection of a corps of teachers
last week by the school board of this
city is hailed with delight by all friends
of the public schools, and can wean
nothing but the greatest success the
wards at Amitv College,College Springs,
Iowa He later lived in Osboine county,
Kansas, where he taught several term,
of school. He has been a resident ol
this county since 1889, and has taught
three years each at Carlton and North
Yamhill, at Dayton six years and tines
mouths, aud had been reemployed. In
this record there is unmistakable eu
dorseuient. ll-.s pupils all love him and
know that he is a thoroughly conscien
tious teacher. This election came to him
unexpectedly, having tiled no applica
tion, and the Dayton board releases him
with reluctance.

western Fire Relief Association, of Se
attle, was in the city over Sunday with
his family. He re|>orta the business of
his association as rapidly growing and
progressing very satisfactorily. Owing
to the illness of Dr. Johnson, Mr. Mar
tin's family will remain here for the
present.
Adjutant General 0. U. fiantenbein
states that of the HIM) members of the
Second Oregon U. 8. volunteers who
were entitled to a rebate from the state
for national guard clothing taken by
them at the time of muster in, 700 had
already tiled their certificates in the ad
jutant general’s office and lliete are still
400 to be heard from.

President C. M. Hays, during his late
trip to Portland, paid particular attention
to the rolling stock of the road in his ob

them to be the now popular chair cars,
and the rest will be the modern day
coaches. All the cars will be 50 feet
long and are the biggest ever ordered or
used bv the southern Pacific. The cars
will be used in the overland service.

attended McMinnville College, and later

gree of bachelor of arts. He lias taught
in Halsey, Brownsville and McMinnville,
and his salary has risen in steady grada
tions from $50 to $90 per month.
He
was chosen class orator at Eugene, was
manager of the University of Oregon
Monthly the first year of its publication,
and was also president'of the organiza
tion of the student body.
The vice principal is Prof. 8. B. Dun
can, well-known to the people of this
county. He was born in Logan county,
Ohio, in 1861. Part of his education was

chemicals on a wart. And there will be
but little sympathy for him. The idea
of putting chemicals on a wart when
everybody knows that the scientific way

Two To The Asylum.
Two of Yamhill’s citizens were ad
judged insane on Monday, June 17th,
and conveyed to the asylum Th ey were
Eugene Hess of Dundee, aged 42 years,
a farmer, whose first attack came on
him io years ago, and Gage S. Spring, a
fanner, aged 67, who lived near the Mc
Minnville tile factory, who has been
seven years an imbecile and blind, ow
ing to a stroke of paralysis.
Mr. W.S. Whedon, cashier of the First
National bank of Winterset, Iowa, in a
recent letter gives some experience with
a carpenter in his employ, that will be
of value to other mechanics.
He save:
“I bad a carpenter woiking for me who
was obliged to stop work for several days
on account of being troubled with diar
rhoea. 1 mentioned to him that I had
been similarly troubled and that Cham
berlain's colic, cholera and diarrhoea
remedy had cured me. He liougiit a

informed me that one dose cured him,

The county commissioners in settle
ment with two officials reduced the find
ings of the experts about 50 per cent,
that is, they found the experts had
charged these officials with items of de
falcation that could not be sustained on
a careful examination.

MONUMENTS UNVEILED.
The program for monument unveiling at Masonic cemeterv last Sunday after-
tioon called out an attendance estimated at 1,000 people. The parade formed in
this city was made up ns follows: McMinnville band, McMinnville
camp, Dayton camp. North Yamhill camp, Newberg camp. Ballston
camp, Lafayette camp and McMinnville circle. The march was in
open order to slow music through the street, and made an impress
ive spectacle.
The McMinnville camp unveiled the monument to Frank W
Hibbs, who died in the Philippines. The address was bv President
Boardman, and was one of those philosophical and Bowery addresses
for which he is generally reputed.
The ladies unveiled the monuments to the memories of Mrs. 1
Martha Henderson aud Mrs. Minnie Duelling. Miss Belle Bishop of
Pendleton officiated in the absence of the graud president. Mrs.
VanOrsdal. The address was well written, and though long, met
with hearty appreciation.
Music was interspersed by the band ami a doable quartet of the
prominent singers of the city.
