The house bill fixing passenger fares on the railroads in this state at three cents a mile was defeated. Only about five working days left for this .-.esion of the legislature, as the session ends on the 22d. That being a holiday, the session may ad journ on Thursday. Over at Salem the minority, though still refusiug to go into caucus with the majority, has been wavering and uncertain in its choice of candidates. Saturday Mr. McBride's strength was thrown to Hon. Geo. H. Will iams. On Tuesday they were again out on a fly, and voted almost to a tnan for IJinger Hermann. Mr. Cor bett gained one vote on that day. which brought his total strength up to 32. There is a splendid opportu nity for the republican members of the Oregon legislature to elect a sen ator this week or next. If the mem bers still refuse to harmonize at the end of the session they will have earned the condemnation spoken of in the third chapter of Paul’s second epistle to Timothy: This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, diso bedient to parents, unfaithful, un holy, without natural affection, truce breakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, high-minded, lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God, having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof; from such turn away. Ever learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. Now, as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth; men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. But they shall proceed no further, for their folly shall be mani fest unto all men as theirs also was. ^EWMkKli. Sewing aa a businesa is an exacting and Mrs C. II.
