    fl Michigan Miracle.
MRS. HARRIET A. BEGOLE TELLS OF
AN UNEXPECTED BLESSING.
Lost Her Voice and Did Not Speak Aloud
for Nearly Thirteen Years—How
Her Speech Was Heatored.
The Ypsilanti Commercial. Ypsilanti, Mich.
Many things appear miraculous that
are really the result of natural laws
the workings of which can be accurate
ly predicted. A striking example of
this occurred in a prominent Michigan
family recently, and in this case there
can be no question as to the truthful
ness of the narrative since it is attest
ed by Mrs. Harriet Begole, of Ypsil
anti, Mich., a sister-in-law of Mr.
Joshua Begole, who was governor of
Michigan in 1883-84.
When inter
viewed Mrs. Begole said:
“In 1886 I suffered from a severe ill
ness brought on by a bard cold. Dur
ing this illness my voice left me and
I did not speak again above a whisper
for nearly 13 years.
“I was treated by five local physi
cians and afterward went to New York
and consulted the leading specialists
there. They diagnosed my case as par
tial paralysis, stating that the left side
of my throat was entirely paralyzed
and the right side partially so.
I re
turned home utterly disheartened.
“For nearly eight years I have suf
fered from a severe stomach disorder
and about a year ago I decided to try
Dr. Williams’ Pink Pills for Pale Peo
ple for this trouble. I was much bene
fited bv the first box and so was en
couraged to persist in their use.
My
stomach trouble was relieved, my gen
eral health became greatly improved
and to my surprise 1 regained control
of my vocal organs. 1 have used five
boxes of the pills and last November I
spoke aloud for the first time in almost
13 years. I am now 71 years of age
and have full control of my voice.
I
feel so grateful that I wish to make
known to others the wonderful cura
tive powers of Dr. Williams’ Pink
Pills for Pale People.
(Signed)
MRS. HARRIET A. BEGOLE.”
Sworn to and subscribed before me
this 19th day of May, 1899, at Ypsil
anti, Mich.

There is nothing surprising in this
cure, remarkable as it is, to those who
know that Dr. Williams’ Pink Pills for
Pale People are so compounded that
they act simultaneously on the blood
and nerves. They tone up the system
and cannot be excelled as a corrective
or a disordered digestion as was proved
in the above case. Their power in re
building wasted nerve tissue makes
them invaluable in the treatment of
partial paralysis, and to this fact Mrs.
Begole owes the restoration of her voice
liter years of useless but expensive
Treatment.
Dr. William’s Pink Pills for Pale
People contain in a condensed form all
the elements necessary to give new life
and richness to the blood and restore
shattered nerves. They are an unfail
ing specific for such diseases as locomo

dance, sciatica, neuralgia, rheuma
tism, nervous headache, the after effect
of la grippe, palpitation of the heart,
pale and sallow complexions, all forms
of weakness either in male or female.
Dr. William’s Pink Pills for Pale Peo
ple, are sold by all dealers or will be
sent postpaid on receipt of price, 50
cents a box or six boxes for $2.50,

Umbrellas for Savages.
Nearly twenty Englishmen are now
at work on seven umbrellas for an
Ashantee chief and his faithful staff.
There Is nothing under the sun a chief
can wear, not even excepting a cast-off
silk hat or a red-llned cavalry coat, so
calculated to strike awe Into the minds
of refractory natives and so Imbue
them with a spirit of obedience as a
"gingham.” Traders, when they want
to obtain free access to the country of
one of the hostile tribes, make presents
of wornout clothing to the natives, or
even a “gamp” to a particularly obsti
nate and pugnacious chief.
A London syndicate of gold coast
traders has given the order and are
paying for the umbrellas In question,
which will be given to bribe the vain,
dusky warriors. James Smith & Sons,
of Oxford street, are making them at
£35 for the large one and £20 each for
the others. When finished the umbrel
las will be gorgeous beyond the dream
of the most imaginative negro.
For the chief present will be nearly
fifteen feet across, quite a descent
sized tent. In fact, on state occasions
it will be so used. The handle will
then be stuck tn the ground and six
slaves will act as the tent pegs. The
material from which It Is being made is
silk, and the colors are to be “red,
white and blue!” Wbat will some of
our political stump orators say to this?
Round the edge will be a deep rich
fringe, and on the top an elaborately
chased cup surmounted by a British
lion, rampant.
For the staff the umbrellas will be
somewhat smaller and less majestic.
What rejoicings there will be in the

Lieutenant Charles Peterson, Hook

cago, 111.:
"Last year I had a severe attack of

that 1 was unable to perform my duties.
Several of my friends advised me to
build up on Peruna, and I found it by
iar the finest tonic aud invigorator 1

strong and well, aud if ever I am ex
posed to unusual hardship incident
with my duties at fires, I take a dose
