Linden was elected | principal of the Sheridan schools for the coming year. Miss Bessie Linden and Miss Mildred Dmgherty were re-elected to the positions held by them last year The teacher for the sixth and seventh grades has not yet been selected, and the board will consider applications for that position later. This will be the sixth year that Prof. Linden has had charge of the public schools of this city. Co. at McMinnville, in place of Dr. Goucher, who went to Nome. Arthur P. Harris and wife removed to Oregon City last week, where Arthur has secured a good position in the paper mill. Mrs. Anton Keil has been visiting sev eral weeks with Mr. Keil’s parents in Portland. She will return home this week. Capt. H. L. Heath returned from the southern Oregon mining district last Sat urday, and exercised the great American right of suffrage on Monday. Dr. J. F. Calbreath, superintendent of ths insane asylum, was over to vote, still holding his residence and registra tion here. Henry Crawford, a late airival here, has purchased six acres in South Park addition to McMinnville, and will im prove the place for a home. Odell & Wood negotiated the sale. Mrs. Julia Gault, Mrs. Lelah Miller and Miss Alta Buoth will represent the local Sarah Newby cabin of Native Daughters at the grind lodge which meets in Portland on the 13th and 13tli ¡nets. The census takers are in the field. McDonald’s residence Wednesday alter nion, Pleas Cozine was thrown to the ground, a distance of 21 feet, by the giv ing way of a scalf »Id. Fortunately he w*s not seriously injured. The C. K. Spaulding Co., of Newberg have purchased the steamer City of Eugene, for which they paid $4,000. They will use the boat for towing logs to tiieir mill at Newberg, and the palp and paper mills at Oregon City, This excellent citizen, formerly of this city, departed this life at Ashland, Ore., Juue 4th, after an illness of several years from calculous condition of the bladder. An operation was sustained a few months ago, from which he uever fully recov ered. Mr. Palmer was born in the state of New York 66 years ago. While a small boy his parents removed to Ohio, and from there they went to Wisconsin, where he was married to Miss Meriam Smith. Their home was in Wisconsin until the year 1875, when they removed to Oregon, residing in Yatnhill county until five years ago, when he removed to Ashland in the hope of benefiting his health. The body was brought to this city on Tuesday, accompanied by Miss Ktta Pal mer, a daughter, and the funeral service was held at Wright’s hall on Wednes day, under the auspices of the A. O. U. W., of which deceased was a member. Mr. Palmer was a man of strict integrity, and respected by a large number of friends. Good Policy 10 Pursue.
