A ladies’ union missionary tea was
held at the home of Prof. Nortbup yes­
terday afternoon.
August Pape was in the city Wednes­
day. He is now living on a farm in
Chehalem valley.

On Sunday night about 10 o’clock fire
was discovered in a warehouse at Dun­
dee. A Mr. Crosby and the S. P. R. R.
both lay claim to the house, and Mr.
Crosby was sleeping in it, when his
lamp exploded and resulted in a total
loss. Nothing was in the building but
about two tons of hay.
At the M. E. church next Sunday the
pastor Henry T. Atkinson will preach
morning and evening.
His evening
subject will be a theme of great interest
viz: “The Mission of Jesus.” The
choir under the able direction of Mr.
Gartner is reaching a Ipgh state of per­
fection, and the musical selections last
Sunday evening were very highly spoken
of. Everybody is cordially invited to at­
tend this church, especially those who
have no church home.
George Hively took bis departure this
morning for Salem, Ohio, where he ex­
pects to find employment in machine
shops. George has been a resident of
McMinnville for a long series of years,
and has given faithful and efficient ser­
vice to many an employer. We hope to
see him prosper in his new home. The
county to which he goes is the soil on
which Marcus Aurelius Hanna and
John J. Spencer first saw the light of
day, and the latter gentleman says the
state of Ohio has turned out some very
mean men.
