Sheriff Henderson has undergone an operation for the relief of the severe pain due to facial neuralgia, with which he suffered severely of late, and which lias bothered him to some extent for six years. The operation was the removal of the fifth cranial nerve located in the lower jaw, and was performed at the North Pacific Pental college in Portland on Saturday. The Telegram of Tuesday evening says of the operation : “He was put under the influence of an anaesthetic and tlie jaw bone laid bare. The nerve canal was drilled out for its entire length witli a burr and dental en gine. The nerve in the side of the tongue was also taken out. The wound was dressed, and when Mr. Henderson camo out from the influence of the anaes thetic, the neuralgia was gone, and the entire side of his lace was without feel ing, there being no sensation when pricked witli a pin. The operation was witnessed by a number of the students of the dental college. Sheriff Ilender son will remain under his physician's care for a few days, when he will return to McMinnville. Dr. A. R. Happy valley lost a good citizen on Tuesday in the death of John Miller, which occurred rather suddenly from dropsy. Mr. Miller was 09 years of age. It was his lot to sustain a good deal of adversity the past few years, having buried three of his children within as many years. The last stroke was the loss of bis son Elmer, who went to the Philippines in the service of his country, ami died of ty plioid fever in November, 1898. This was llie source of great grief to the old gentleman, and probably hastened bis own demise. In his early years he was a sailor, and when engaged in conversation was a genial and enter taining man, and could relate many in teresting experiences. The funeral was held at the home on Wednesday, con ducted by Rev. Joseph Hoberg, and burial was made in Happy valley cem etery. The widow, who is left with but one daughter, certainly has the sympathy of all who are acquainted with her great bereavement. Columbus Mil no I Notei.
