Littlefield is sending out a {50 apportionment to each school district. Dr. J. F. Galbreath and family left ou the afternoon train yesterday for their new home at Salem. Mrs. Turner and daughters Anna and Clara, arrived home Saturday from a visit with relatives in Portland. Wm. Manning of Newberg was in the city yesterday, as hearty and cheerful as ever. He is pleased with his new home. Mrs. A. J. Nelson, who has been at Rickreall, returned Tuesday with her -daughter, Mrs. Annie Henderson, who also visited relatives in Polk county, .^fred Cooper took a run down to As toria over Sunday. The railroad fare from Portland by rail is only 50 cents, and Fred says the trains are crowded. Miss Mildred Tibbals, of Salt Take City, a junior at Pacific University, spent the Christmas holidays with Mrs. W. M. Ramsey and daughters. She returned to Forest Grove Wednesday. I.. E. Walker has purchased the baker and grocery business of J. P. Irvine & Son in this city. Mr. Walker was for merly in business here, and he needs no introduction to people of McMinnville. Mr. F. H. Johnson the jeweler has just returned from the sad mission of burying his sister. Mrs. Emma Trullinger oi Victoria, B. C., fell down a stairway on Dec. 27th and crushed her skull, from which she died the following day. The burial occurred at Vancouver, Wash , yesterday. Mr. Johnson’s first informa tion of the accident reached him on Sat urday last. Our immense holiday trade has made room for the big line of New Y’ork goods shipped last month which will be here in a few days. Keep your eyes open for bargains at the Racket store.. 3-2 Mrs. Ida Kruger died at the home of her parents Mr. and Mrs. R. AV. Kings bury at Farmington, Wash , on Wednes day of last week, of a complication of lung and heart troubles. Mrs. Kruger was born in McMinnville in 1878, and was a niece of AV. L. Warren. Next Lord’s day at the Christian church Pastor Lindsey will discuss the following subjects: Morning subject, “What is Heartfelt Christianity;” even ing subject, “Those Awful Newspapers." Died, at Mosier, Oregon, Dec. 26th, 1899, after an illness of about 3 months, Herbert Lester Rowland, aged 21 years and 13 days. Deceased had lived little more than a year at Mosier, but during that brief time had endeared himself to the people by his amiability, as was shown by tne en tire community assembling to pay nim ■the last tribute of respect, when he wis laid away to «trait that great dat “when all’wfio are in their graves shall hear his voice and come forth.” Deceased was assistant P. M. at Mosier at the time of his death. He leaves a mother (Mrs. Rachel Stewart, nee Row land, formerly Miss Rachel AA’arren of McMinnville), one sister, Mrs. Myra De pu, and two brothers, Ira AV. and AV.
