Elder Cain of Amity will preach in the Presbyterian church next Sunday. Mrs. Emma Mills of Portland visited Whiteson this week, returning Thursday. A receipt that will cure the grippe and neuralgia would find a ready sale in Whiteson. H. II. Campbell, who is living at Day ton, but formerly of this place, is reported to be dangerously ill. Miss Edith Percival has received a nold breast pin from Manila, made in perfect imitation of a Mauser cartridge. The young lady is justly’ proud of the ornament but absolutely refuses to disclose the name of the sender. A large number of the relatives and friends of Mrs. R. W. Phillips faced the mud and mists of Tuesday evening to give that lady a surprise on the occasion of her 47th birthday. After all were comfortably seated,eomeone asked Uncle Dick, who never needs a second invita tion, for a story. Several were told with sidesplitting effect. Games and other amusements were indulged in until a late hour, when a dainty lunch was spread and chicken sandwiches, cake and coffee disappeared with a rapidity that suggested excellent appetites on the part of all the guests.
