Manritien of Nswberg was coinuiitted to the insane asulntn on a hearing in Marion county last week. Up to the middle of last week Oregon ian« were congratulating themselves over an uncommonly pleasant summer sea son. Just then the mercury began bop ping upw ard and on Thursday reached the altitude of '.»<> degrees. This was un comfortable, but the follow ing day it was ■ !)8 deg., and on Saturday, Sunday and Monday touched the 100 maik. This is a remarkable weather record for this locality, and it has been many years since so high a temperature held sway for so many days. Since the dates named we have got back to normal conditions and are enjoying the daily sea breezes. Mention was recently made in these columns of a new fruit, the Loganberry, being successfully grown by a party near Corvallis. C. W. Holman, who is al Watsonville, Cal., w rites as follows about it: “In a recent issue of The Reporter I saw an article in regard to the Logan berry, all of w liicli is correct except two points, the origin and shipping qualities The berry originated right here in Santa Cruz Co., by Judge Logan of Santa Cruz. They are grown extensively for shipping purposes and are a great favorite here.
