FRIDAY, JUNE 10, 1898,
T he Salem hog is once more in ev
idence.
T ongue ran like a quarter horse in
this county. The people recognize
and appreciate the value of his ser
vices in congress.
--------- --------
T he republican victory in Oregon
will have great weight in its bearing
upon national politics. It is clearly
a victory for the gold standard over
the joint forces that stand for debased
money in one form or another. It
emphasizes with increased vigor the
victory wonjin 1896, and will teach
the national organization or organ!
zations of those forces the necessity
of finding new issues.
------ »e <------
T he Australian ballot must be
corrected by the next legislature,
so that men may vote their straight
party ticket with one mark of the
blue pencil. We must copy the
New York ballot. It is not justice
to have the intentions of voters
thwarted by their confusion over the
arrangement of the ballots.—States
man.

WITCH HAZEL»
Is fast becoming a household friend.
It is far
better than the many patent nostrums now on the
market for the relief of scalds, burns, wounds,
sprains or bruises, toothache, rheumatism, neural
gia. We buy only the best, made by E. E. Dick
inson & Co., and fully recommend it as a valuable
household remedy. Witch Hazel and Alcohol
mixed half and half works wonders for soreness
excessive exercise.

That ill-fated craft went down in Havana harbor
and created more excitement than any one incident
of late years.
Its the same way with Our New Footwear.
Everybody is talking about them, and they all say a.
that they are the best specimens of shoemaking in
Ladies’, Misses’ and Childrens’ Shoes that the world
ever saw, and they won’t be blown up either. Too
good for that.
