While the Portland merchants are pay
ing a great deal of attention to working
up and securing a big Alaska trade, the
San Francisco drummers are invading
the territory of the Willamette valley
and getting back the business they used
to have years ago. One San Francisco
drummer recently secured orders for
$17,000 worrh of goods between McMinn
ville and Eugene. San Francisco is not
worrying about the Alaska trade. She

lasting nearer home. A number of Port

ley, have been taken off and sent north.
