See him at once in Dr. Wright’s dental office. Eyes tested free for glasses. Henry Clark, who now resides at Smithfield, Polk county, was in town this week. He is trying his hand at farming, and has in 200 acres in grain. The ladies’ guild of the Episcopal church will give a “coffee” at the resi dence of W. B. Gilson on Friday even ing, December 28th. Refreshments will be served at 10 cents. All are invited. It is always a good day when Uncle Doc. Sitton is in town, He io jovial with the boys, old and young, and his good nature is epidemic. The Woman’s Relief Corps is preparing an entertainment to be given about the middle of January. “The Milk Maid's Convention” they will call it. • A Yambill farmer who was unloading a fine lot of hogs at Matthies Bros.’, the other day, remarked to the writer that those same pigs were fattened on a diet of wheat and oats, and that it had netted him just seventy-five cents a bushel. The county court at its last session or dered the sheriff to levy on all property delinquent for taxes of 1893, and he is doing so m expeditiously as possible. Notwithstanding the hard times, the list is as small as it ever was before the de linquent levy. Gold spectacles wonid make a most acceptable Christmas present. Dr. Lowe has them. G. B. Tucker of University Park was in the city on business Wednesday. The Baptist Sunday school will have a Christmas tree. The school, church and congregation will join to make a success. John Kingery has rented the Handley property adjoining the creamery, and will become a resident of McMinnville about January 1st. The greater part of the feminine beauty of the city is engaged in preparing for that carnival. It will be a success. See program elsewhere. Rev. D. L. Edwards, professor in Port land University, will preach in the M. E. church next Sunday morning and evening. Subject Sunday evening es pecially interesting to young people. Superintendent Baker authorizes the statement that owing to arrangements in so many other quarters to celebrate Christmas, the public schools will not offer a program this year. The little steamer, Hattie Bell, the property of the O. R. a N. Co., came up the river Wednesday. The company ex pect to make daily trips with this boat to McMinnville as long as the water is high enough. She will be kept on the Yam hill, and her freight transferred to larger veeeele at the mouth of the river. Her captain has secured the contract from M. B. Hendrix to ship the 30,000 bushels of grain stored in the Grange warehouse. The vessel has a capacity of from 80 to 100 tons. Otficar« Calar*.
