They are building a large sewer on piles, and if they suc ceed in their undertaking, which is to cost one and a half million dollars, they will have done a great deal to ward solving a very difficult prob lem. This new sewer runs along the bed of the Aramingo canal, which is too soft to hold the great weight. To get over this difficulty piles of yellow pine twelve inches square are to be driven down to rock bottom about three feet apart. In the recently published annual re port of the division for 1892 it is an nounced as the result of thorough and mechanical tests that “it can be stated with absolute assurance that the prejudice entertained by archi tects and builders against bled timber is without basis.
