STATS AND TEHRITUHIAL. Wood $9 a cord in Lowiaton, Idaho. A good many idlo men throng th< Sound cities. Trains are still snow-bound in the Blue Mountains. Wheat $1,35 per bushel at Tacoma Flour $5.80 to $6.50. The Chinese at work on the rail road t in Eastern Oregon are accepting th* situatian at 80 cents per day. Counting over a band of 16, l sheep in Eastern Oregon, it is found that less than <10 died during the win ter. One thousand dozen of eggs in __ hands of ranchers on the Nooksack, W. T., and no way of getting them to market. Settlers in Pacific county, W. T., on the peninsula between the ocean and Shoalwater Bay, are going into cran berry culture on a large scale. Last week Prineville had a narrow escape from a conflagration. That the tire was started by some evil-minded person, appears to be beyond doubt. The Northern Pacific Coal Company was badlv outgeneraled in the Helena Laud Office last week, while trying to gobble some Bull mountain coal land. The harbor of Draton, W. T., is the most northerly one on Puget Sound. It has an area of 3700 acres at low tide and extends to the southern boundary of British Columbia. It is reported from Seattle that the recently discharged railway employes if not paid on a second demand will at tach company property. The company owe these men $60,000. The Whatcom, W. T., Iteveille re- P )rts the probable openiug of a coal uiiue on Lake Whatcom, and the build ing of a railroad to it from Bellingham Bay for the shipment of its product. During the recent spell of cold weath er the stock throughout Lane County guttered considerable, and a few perish ed. If the snow hnd continued ten •lays longer the loss would have been great. From the Coos Buy, Oregon, iVeicu we glear. the following items: The keel of the new vessel being built nt North Bend is one piece of timber, and measures 165 feet in length. Trees grow high on Coos Bay. Big kick in Whatcom county. W. T., there is a ton of mnil accumulated nt the NewWhat.com postoffice for towns along the Nooksack, which the mail contractor, Victor Roeder, refuses to carry, because, as he alleges, tlwre is no money in his route. Says the .Spokane Falls Chronicler. Beef sells at fifty cents per pound. Ven ison is becoming scarcer. Snow is so deep there that nothing is being done Io open the mines, but every one is buisy building cabins and clearing timber away. Laborers are in demand at $5 a day. Says the Independence ll'caf Side: With the completion of the O. P. R. R, from Corvallis to Yaquina ’day, the people will have the benefit of what we deem will be truly a competing line. Colonel Hogg certainly deserves credit for the persistent and indefati gable energy with which he has brought up the work thus far under so many adverse circumstances. We have the assurance that early in October next the road will be completed. Printers heretofore have loftilv de clared their freedom from the encroach ment or me Chinese into the domain of "type-sticking,” but recently one of the pagans invaded the Olympia Cour ier composing room, captured a case and went boldly to work on the hiero glyphics of the writer, and quicklv demonstrated his ability to do good anil rapid work net a compositor. He says he learned the trade in China. How ever, he lias not applied, for a "sit” as a " regular" or a “ sub.” From parties down from Whatcom this morning, says the Tacoma Neu-x of the 27th, we gather the particulars of a fiendish murder, committed last Sun day. J. C. Bull, proprietor of a small Btore about two miles from the Nook sack, wns the victim, and it is believed he was killed for the purpose of rob bery. Some of his neighbors discover ed the building on fire and roacbal the place in time tA drag the bod’. of Mr. Bell from tne house. 11 was then dis covered that ho was shot through the head, the ball entering just above his right eye. No clue to the utturderers. Speaking of the wreck of the Lizzie Murshiill, th<3 Port TnwohKYud Argus says: 'I ho Indians of the west coast where the, vessel went, ashore are re ported to be the most despicably wick ed and mean, taking the clothing oft’ the backs of the pour seamen, and hav mg apparently bvrt one aim. viz : to get everything of value. Mrs. Bergman and the crew saved only the elothiug ou their backi at the time of the wreck and the Indiana even went so far as to refuse to give them auy of the provis ions that drifted ashore, until frighten ed into doing bo by threats that a num of war would be sent there. During the first night the vessel was in (Unger, n steamer came clooe and whistled. A fiiisli light was shown on the bauk. but the tug failed to see it. At that time the vessel could have lieen saved. Some time ago, A. M. Cannon and J. J. Brown skipped quietly out of Spo kane Falls, and disappeared iu the di rection of New York. The object they had in view has now developi-d—peti tioning Congress for the right to incor porate a company to build a railway between Spokane Falls and the Cœur d'Alene mines. The petition sera forth Chat an extensive and valuable mining region has been dùonvered recently at the head watgra of tbs Cwmi d’Abne. Idaho Territpty, to wbfaii a large and increasing poMtatfa* fa now tending ; that the difanct fa ao* without rail road and otbar ttAMportatiou facilities; that the moat available route by which the district cap be reached would lie a line from SpoEane Falls, W. McMinnville, Oregon. k M arvelous S tory TOLD IN TWO LETTERS. FROM THE S0N:T«S^.W “ Gentlemen My father resides at Glover, Vt. He has been a great sufferer from Scrof ula, and tbe inclosed letter will tell you what a marvelous effect Ayer’s Sarsaparilla has had in bis ease. 1 think bls blood must have contained the humor for at least ten yean; but It did not show, except in the form of a scrofulous sore on the wrist, until about five years ago. From a few spots which ap peared at that time, It gradually spread so as to cover his entire body. I assure you be was terribly afflicted, and an object of pity, when he began using your medicine. Now, there are few men of his age who enjoy as good health as he has. I could easily name fifty persona who would testify to the facto in his case. Yours truly, W. M. Kuuan." FROM THE FATHER: a duty for me to state to yon the benefit I have derived from the use of Ayer’s Sarsaparilla. Six months ago I was completely covered with a terrible hnmor and scrofulous sores. The humor caused an incessant and intolerable Itching, and the skin cracked so as to cause the blood to flow in many places whenever I moved. My sufferings were great, and my life a burden. I commenced the use of the Sansar abilla In April last, and have used it regularly since that time. My condition began to improve at once. The sores have all healed, and I feel perfectly well in every respect — being now able to do a good day’s work, although 73 years of age. Many inquire what has wrought such a cure In my case, and I tell them, as I have here tried to tell you, A txb ’ s S absspabil la. Glover, Vt., Oct. 21, 1882. No other complaints are so insidious in their attack as those affecting the throat and lungs: none so trifled with by the» majority of suffer ers. The ordinary cough, or cold, resulting perhaps from a trifling or unconscious ex posure, is often but the beginning of a fatal sickness. A yer ’ s C hixrry P ectoral has well proven its efliracy in a forty years’ fight with throat and lung diseases, and should be taken in all cases without delay. A Terrible Cough Cured. “ In 18571 took a severe cold, which affected my lungs. 1 had a terrible cough, and passed night after night without sleep. The doctors Rave me up. 1 tried A yf . r ’ h C herry P ec toral , which relieved my lungs, induced sleep, and afforded me the rest necessary for the recovery of my strength.
