McPherson, Snoddcrly and Uweuby
Lave paid the death penalty on the
gallows—the former nt the hand of

blooded murder of an old man near
Dayton, W. T„ for the purpose of
plunder. They had their trial and
were all sentenced to be hangod, when
McPherson was granted a reprieve by
the Governor- The citizen knew him
to be guilty ami not wishing to see
the gallows cheated of a cold-blooded
murderer, formed themselves into a
committee of the whole, went to the
jail, overpowered the guards, and took
him i<> a tree near by aud strung
hitii up. Their action has a deep sig-
niticniu-e. it shows that the people
have seen too many heartless criminals
vilUaus, whose hands were stained with
the blood of their fellow men; turned
loose through technicality ami sharp
practice, and that the only way to end
this kind of business is by taking the
law into their own hands. And the

out the country the sooner will outlaws
and murderers cease their devilish op­
erations.
