Co. for the past three years, is here visiting his family and friends. Mrs. J. B. Gardener returned from Soda­ ville. last Wednesday, much improved in health. Jako Mann, Esq., of Tacoma, W, T„ is in town, and reports everything booming on the Bound. Mr. Fred Crawford, Supervisor of road district No. 28. has been engaged during the last week building new approaches and oth­ erwise repairing the bridge across the Yam­ bill at this plane. John Fletoher and family returned from Nestucca last Wednesday. Mrs. Eliza Smith, of Colfax, W. T., has been visiting her mother, Mrs. F. Holdredge, daring the past week. George Young, Esq., has been engaged by the Silver Creek Mining Co., to take charge of the work on their quartz mine, in the Coast range. The team belonging to A. A. Crane ran away last Tuesday ; Mr. Osborne, the driver, vas thrown from the wagon and oonsidera- hly bruised, but sustained no severe injuries. The Flouring Mill Co’s, warehouse is rap­ idly nearing completion. Mr A. A. Crane, the manager of the Co., has a force of fif­ teen men employed and oxpeots to have the »alehouse ready to receive grain by August IStb. The mill is being overhauled and re­ fitted with first-class machinery; another ran of burs will be added, which will give it a canaeity of 100 barrels of flour per day.— It vill by ready for tho fall run about Sept. 1st. L loyd . D. C. Daugherty and others are at work on the penstock at the new mill. Daniel Bogue received by express from Il­ linois. last week, four Italian queen bees; they ware bright and lively and he has plac­ ed each of them in a hive. It is reported in town that Brown & Sleppy have lost by fire, two or three thousand feet of saw logs; that eight or ten men went into the mountains to burn around them, but the tire, once started, could not be kept under control, and it is now raging close to the farms in Gooseneck valley. A couple of poor, old, crippled up have been allowed to run at large streets of tbe town all summer. The., .. nuisance and the Marshal should attend to them. More hay was offered for sale at five dol­ lars per ton, in the field, than could find buyers. The air is full of smoke and dust and it is very disagreable. Mr. Charles Sailing has the contract for painting the new mill building and he has the first coat on the outside. Quite a number of pioneers are talking of going east over th? N. P. R. K. with the ex­ cursionists. Mr. Jos. Watt will confer a fa­ vor upon a number of persons in this section if he will, through the R eporter , answer the following questions. Who are the officers of tho Pioneer Society, and what are their addresses ? Is a man a pioneer who was in Oregon in August, 1854 ? What course will a man have to take who has never joined the Pioneer sooiety, to get a ticket for the excursion ? Will a roan who joined the Pi­ oneer Sooiety two or three years ago but has not attended sinoe havo to pay back dues to get a certificate ? Can the money be .pent to Mr. Bacon by money order?
