SUMMONS. THE TELEPHONE-REGISTER. HE WANTS A MARKET. pass n free coinage law at the old ratio, one liunilreil cents of gold for sixty cents of silver. Hliould the United States be unable to redeem silver eein with gold, th« silver dollar would pos- ■>«*■• in commerce only its bullion val ue. This of course would not occur un-' til all our gold was gon« mid then it ( would take two American silver dol-1 lain to purchase^tlie smiie amount of | foreign goods that we purchiwed before the disappearaneo of gold for one silver dollar, provided, silver, in the mean time, liad not further depreciated. It is simply commercial suidde to du business by means of a circulating me dium ot low value with countries hav ing a solid, substantial and more valua ble standard, the price of which as a commodity does not fluctuate below its value as a medium of exchange. Why is it not just as good for the United States to have th« nations of the earth agree to accept gold as a basis of value as it is for them to agree to accept sil ver? This country is the greatest pro ducer of both metals. The whole mat ter hangs with the silver miner. He wants a market. The production of silver is greater than its consumption in the arts and the sliver producer watats to sell his overproduction to the government to be used as money. The farmers have the same right to demand of the government the pur chase of the excess of last years wheat crop over consumption. If tlie government is to furnish a market ter oue class of its citizens it should furnish a market for all classes. The government should have no fa vorites. ________ SUMMONS.
