Veatcb, of Lane, Weather ford of Linn, McGinn of Multnomah, Hayes of Clackumus, mid Looney of Marion, were appointed u committee on credentials. Tlie senate then ad journed for half an hour. It was again called to order at 3:4-5, when the report of tin- credentials committee was hdopted. The permanent officers were then elected as decided upon ill the caucus, and the clerks were sworn in. Willis offered a resolution inviting the clergy of the state to open each morning with u prayer. This and the rules of lust session were adopted. A concurrent resolution wus adopted to appoint a committee of two from the senate and three from the house to wait upon tin* governor and inform him that the legislature is in session ami ready to hear any communication he might wish to make. Senate resolution No. 4 was adopted, providing each member with a copy of Hill’s code, session laws, Journal, ete., of the last senate, after which the sen ate adjourned until 19 a. in. Tuesday. The Washington mill of 5i) looms cost the state about $170,000 and pleases the prison officials. At San Quentin he suys they have lieen running a mill of 1< h » looms for eight years, and are so well pleased that they will double the capacity. Tin- output there last year was 2,000,030 sacks,sold at 61 cents each. The one thing exceedingly foolish ulsiut it is the idea of lenving one hour in the middle of the night for the public peace. One hour is not time enough for the aver age drunk to sober up nor even to get home after his night’s fun. For good ness sake, show a little sense and knock out the other hour, also the clause closing the saloon on Sundays, election daysand holidays, (hen set tire to the town.
