place. It will be quite a large building
and will contain a stage and dressing

A young roan is looking around the
city for a suitable place to start a candy
manufacture. We welcome all kinds of
industry in this city and that is about
all. $500 Oin coin put up by the citizens
of this place would bring us a woolen
mill.
The Portland hatters say that the Re
publican hat is a pearl plug with pearl
band and the Democratic hat is a pearl
plug with a black band. This question
should be settled as McMinnville people
have the hats but do not know the band
to use.
We have added an engraving depart
ment to this paper and in due time art
icles on Yamhill county subjects will
appear illustrated. This addition is not
without an expenditure of time and
money and we hope the public will at
least appreciate our efforts for the ad-
vancetnent of our glorious county.

Thursday morning Mart Spencer,

Slleti Agency.
THE
Jo Ben Lane has been removed from
the Siletz Agency and Mr. D. Gather,
who lie's been Clerk there for two years,
appointed in hia place. The Leader puts
it as follows: "The removal of Mr. Lane
was caused by the trouble in the spring
by the Indians. A government surveyor
ran away w ith a half-breed girl employed
at the agency, and the Indians blamed
the agent lor it. The trouble was fo
mented by persons outside of the agency,
under threats of personal harm by the
Indians. The girl was sent to the school
at Chemawa. Mr. Lane secured an in
vestigation of tbe m-itter by a special
agent of the government. The result of
the investigation was a request for Mr.
Lane's resignation. He went to Wash
ington to vindicate himself, but with no
effect. Mr. Giady, a brother of the fa
mous Georgia editor, is industrial teach
