WEST SIDE TELEPHONE,
i
Ills F air and F estival —At the opera
house Wednesday evening, under the
auspices of St. James ladies Guild was
a decided success. First there was a
short miscellaneous programme, which
was well appreciated by all present.
Solos by Mrs. Ramsdell and Mrs. James
a leoitation by Miss Annie Turner, a
duett by little Minnie and Flora Ham
nett, and a tableau “popping the ques
tion,” completed the programme.
Alter this everybody betook themselves
to examining the pretty things (or sale
and having a social good time. In look
ing around the hall wo found tables
loaded down with fancy work. One
table being set apart especially for the
children attracted the eyes of the little
ones. But the greatest attraction was
the corner occupied by the Japanese
fancy goods and presided over by “Sam
I i< k ”(D. C. .Narver.) A good supper
was served and everybody had a good
time. The articles for sale were not all
disposed of, so the ball was kept open
all day Thursday. We were unable to
learn what the receipts and expenses
weie, but it is safe to say a handsome
sum was realized. The ladies deserve
groat praise for their untiring efforts to
make the fair a success and to secure
the enjoyment of all those who were
present.
