This is, or ought to be the tiling tiiat is uppermost in the minds of our people. A place that shows a live interest in public school work is the most desirable as a place of residence. Such is the case witli McMinnville at present. The directors have secured the best corps of teachers possible, with Prof. J. A. Price as principal. Under the man agement <4 this gentleman last year the school wan worked up to a high point of excellence. Departing from the usual rule of having bare walls to gaze upon, charts and maps were purchased and placed in several rooms, not only beau tifying them, but proving a source of in struction to all. Besides these, books, periodicals and papers of various kinds were added for the edification of the more advanced pupils. But still the principal is not satisfied with the good work begun, for last week were ordered Chambers’ Encyclopedia consisting of 12 volumes and 25 volumes of the stand ard poems of the country. These ixioks added to those already on hand will make a neat library and one from which about all items relating to history and general topics of the country can be ob tained. Speaking of books, Prof. Price requests us to state that if any person has a good book they wish to donate for the furtherance of educational work, it will be thankfully received by him for the school library. This is an excellent scheme; and while we think about it, win would it not be a good idea to do nate the books that formerly belonged to the library union for this purpose? They are lying idle, somewhere, end ■nigiit aS well be put to some use. Now then, all that our < Itizens have got to do is to “stand in” with Prof Prive and his assistants and McMinnville will have a school that will “surprise the natives,” and cause us all to feel proud.
