WEST SIDE TELEPHONE, ilcMlXNVIl.I.E.Tl HÜI1AV, Al t ests!, 188<J. THE COUNTY FAIR—OUR SAY. EAST Before another week will huve rolled around the third annuii fair for Ya'nliill county will have begun and in our issue of one week from to-day we will be able to prophesy whether or not it in a suc- cese. We lielieve the people of thia town havo done the largest part of thyir duty in contributing eo genoroualy of their nieana to defray the expenses of the fair; and wo believe that, not only the citizens of the town but of the coun ty at large will lend their presence dur ing the three day*, so that at the end «e may be able to sav that Yamhill still leads the van in the matter of home en terprises. It is not intended that this will be any stupendous exhibition; it is for Ya'nliill county, gotten up by her own citizens for the purpose of druwing together the productions of tlie county for compari son and mutual benefit among neighbors. Much has been said in print and in pub lic regaiding racing, but it must not be inferred fiotn that that racing is the principal part of the programmo. On the contrary everybody who takes enough interest to bring an article for exhibition will have a hearing and re ceive due recognit'oil by the manage ment. Some people are proud to exhi bit a good draught horse ; others take pride in a good Roadster, while others take the same pride in speeding over tin racecourse, .lust so in cattle: some put them forward for milkers, others for their size and other fine points. The name may be said of sheep, hogs, poul try, etc. And it must not be thought that articles exhibited by the ladies will be overlooked, for the management have decided and will see to it that, cash pre miums will be awaided in that depart ment. These are our last words regarding the fair until it will have begun. We have spoken of it quite often during the past two months; but in doing so we have uttered nothing but what we believe we were justified in saying. There are some few things connected with the grounds that are not entirely satisfactory to ev erybody ; it is impossible to make it so. But we can assure the people of Yamhill county that the management have work ed assiduously for one end and that is to make this exhibition for the county a success; and with the assistance of the people we have no fears of the result.
