LOC.iL AND GENERAL. Davis, resident dentist. ' us Dunn returned from Tilla- last Friday. on Peery A Harris, the druggists, ( for holiday goods. C. H. Powell, of Astoria, is visit parents in this town. un —To the wife of Henry L. Lewis, yette, December 5, 1887, a daugh- BROKE JAIL. Jack Cooper, Frank Allen and J. W. Howard, made their escape from the county jail last Friday night. They were bound over to await the action of the grand jury, and for want of bail were sent to jail; the former for stealing sheep and' the latter two for breaking into a store. Ooojier was allowed the liberty of the corridor and during the bight at-, tended to the wants of Wm. H. Hess, a fellow prisoner, who is quite sick. By beitfg in the corridor Cooper could, com municate with parties on the outside, through the double set of bars guarding the windows. He probably received the saw through these bars and sawod out two bars in the cell door, where Allen and Howard wore confined; making a hole nine by twelve inglies. When once the three were in the corridor, their escape was only a question of timo. The bars on the inside of the window are hori zontal, flat, one-half by one anil one-half inches, one of which was pried from its fastenings at one end und bent bock out of fhe way. Th<>se.vou Bio outside are perpendicular, round, seven-eighths of an inch in diameter. One of these bars was sawed ofl, and the adjoining ones were spread by the outside parties. The hole th lie made is nine by fourteen inches and about nine feet from the floor on the in side and twelve feet from the ground oh the outside. It must have been anything but an easy matter to escape even after these bars were thus removed. A re ward of $75—$25 each—has been offered for the arrest of these prisoners, and it is hoped they will soon be captured and again placed in durance vile. 5. Give yoar methods of teaching?
