bed in th e little house th e r e w as
g r e a t jo y a m o n g the old c orn-stalks,

M eadow M ouse it would.

M ouse w a s n 't m u c h to look at. It
w as ju s t a little round house of corn
sh u c k s a n d g r a s s in th e m id d le of
a pile of old c o rn -sta lk s on the edge
of F a r m e r B ro w n 's cornfield, but
to little Mite, the lost b a b y of Dan-

called a t the top of his funny little

and two siste rs, T eeny, Weeny, and
Midget, a n d c ro w d e d a ro u n d him
and ru b b e d noses w ith him , which
is the M eadow M ouse w a y of k is s ­
ing. a n d told him how glad they
w ere to see him . and a sk e d h im if
he really had seen the G r e a t World,
and w h a t it w as like, all ta lk in g
at once and m a k in g such a s q u e a k ­
ing as th a t pile of corn sta lk s n e v e r
h a d knuwn before.
L ittle Mite w ondered why his f a ­
th e r and m o th e r d id n 't c o m e out
to g r e e t him . and as soon as he got
a c h a n c e he a sk e d w h e re they w e r e
" T h e y a r e out hunting for y o u ."
replied T eeny. " T h e y 'v e been out
e v e ry d a y since you went a w a y , and
we’ve all been so m is e r a b le and
lonesom e.

again, will you, M ite ? ”
" N e v e r ! ” d e c la r e d Mite. " N e v e r

m e a n t is.

punish h im . for he knew th a t he d e ­

he h a d n 't disobeyed in the first pla c e
he w ouldn't h a v e been lost. But he
w a s so glad to be h o m e a g a in th a t
h e didn t m ind the thought of p u n ­
