ture, lcxks ami ship canal at Bonne­
ville. to cost an estimated $3,000,000,

This contract, one of the major
jobs on the huge project, will provide
work for 500 men. It must ix com­
pleted by April 1, 1935.

on the Oregon side of the river. When
the Guy F. Atkinson company fin-
ischs its contract and withdraws the
employes on the jxmerhouse. locks
and ship canal will be housed in the
i 38 hunkhouses down by the railroad
station.
Excavation work on the shiep
■ anal is going steadily forward. The
canal will lx nearly 1000 feet in
length and the locks will be 76 feet
w-ide and ( kiss through walls of soldi
rock at the powerhouse site.
The powerhouse will be 550 feet in
length and 300 feet wide. It will oc­
cupy the space in Bradford slough
hzetwern the island and the mainland
on the Oregon side of the river.
Concrete for the|xmerhouse sub­
structure, the locks and the canal
will he furnished by the governiner.t.
The contract for the superstructure,
or the powerhouse proper, will be let
at a later date. This second contract
will provide for the pumps, turbines,
draft tube liner, cranes, gats. etc.
Awarding of this contract, together
with the contract for the spillway
dam, will bring the number of em­
ployes at the dam up to nearly 2000
men.
